A blocked blog “secret dubai diary” has won the ‘Bloggies’ American Award!

03.14.07

UAE dubai based popular newspaper the gulf news announced today that an UAE based blog “secret dubai diary” has won the ‘Bloggies’ blogs award which been held in Austin, TX. The “secret dubai blog” has won an award as the best blog in the reigon. The second award has gone for “Raising Yousef” from Palestine as the best blog in Africa and the Middle East.

The ironic thing is that the winner blog is already blocked by UAE Etisalat proxy service. Read here. This has reminded me of Alanis Morissette song “ironic” :

A traffic jam when you’re already late
A no-smoking sign on your cigarette break
It’s like ten thousand spoons when all you need is a knife
It’s meeting the man of my dreams
And then meeting his beautiful wife

Rimi Bandali

02.21.07

“Yesterday is but today’s memory, tomorrow is today’s dream.
- Kahlil Gibran

It was so long since we have heard any news about Rimi Bandali. Rimi Bandali was singing in the 80’s. I remember when I have attended a concert for her in Jabal Al Webdeh in amman. I was 12 years old at that time.
I showed this video clip to my younger brothers and neither of them was able to recognize rimi or have ever heard about her.
For me & for a lot of 80’s generation, She really characterize the pureness, tenderness, hope, peace, love and authenticity.
I am sure she could be a big female star if she continued to sing. How can we compare rimi bandali to the laughing stuck(s) of the SUPER STAR preparation stages.
Enjoy the video for Rimi Bandali.

Best “Lost” theory I’ve read

10.20.06

I’ve been reading lots of theories on “Lost” TV series since season 3 started a few weeks ago, but this is by far the best theory I’ve read, and by “best” I mean that this is the one theory that answers the most “questions” and has the least “flaws”.

The more I read this board the more I’m amazed at how many people grasp for rational explainations within LOST. It seems that each time the writers show us the slightest hint of a scientific path through the supernatural jungle, most people are willing to run full tilt right down it. I just don’t get that.

* Do you really think Jack’s dad just up and walked away?
* Do you really think a black stallion lives on the island?
* Do you really think a Nigerian Beechcraft could reach the middle of the Pacific?
* Do you really think the polar bears are from Dharma’s “zoology” experiment?
* Do you really believe in nanobots???

The one thing very obvious to me is that the island will create anything (or anyone) that any of the main characters can think up. The island manifests whatever is desired, imagined, feared, or thought about. The island itself is responsible for these things - or rather, the characters are responsible for them through the power of thought or will.

THIS IS THE ONE THING THE OTHERS DO NOT WANT THEM TO REALIZE

Look at what’s happened so far:

Locke’s gained his legs back. From the moment he went to wiggle his toes they moved… simply because he believed they might. Locke is one of the very special people who somewhat understands that the island will grant him things (Rose is another). Do you really think he learned to hunt, track, slaughter and skin boars simply from shooting quail with his dad? Do you really think he can throw knives with deadly accuracy? Or is the knife-throw accurate because Locke believes? I think the later. All of Locke’s abilities come from his kinship with the island, yet some people still speculate about where he learned such awesome skills back at his job stocking aisles at Toys R’ Us.

Jack sees his father, who is obviously dead. Do you really believe this guy faked his death, crashed on the island, bolted his coffin, and is roaming around as part of some sort of sinister conspiracy? Or do you think maybe Jack sees his dad because his guilt has him thinking constantly about him and the island manifests him in the form of a vision just beyond his reach?

Look at Charlie. Thousands of miles from civilization, all a heroin junkie would think about is not having access to any heroin. And then suddenly a planeload of it miraculously shows up? Please.

Take Eko. He hears of a crashed plane on the island, and he wants very badly for it to be his brother’s missing plane. So badly that it becomes his brother’s missing plane. Wild coincidence? No. Self-fullfilling prophecy, courtesy of the island. And hey, didn’t Eko’s memories get scanned by the smoke monster right before they found the plane? Hmmmm.

Kate’s stallion is there because she unconciously willed it to be there. Claire thinks her baby might get sick, and so it does. Hurley’s having a tough time dealing with food and suddenly Dave shows up, easily plucked from his subconcious and manifested by the island. His numbers keep appearing because he keeps obsessing over them, not the other way around.

And then there’s Sayid, trying to escape a complicated life during which he was forced to do questionable things. Yet once on the island he inevitably finds himself having to do those same things yet again.

In short, I think the island makes all things possible. Think about this: Was there dynamite in the Black Rock before they needed it to blow the hatch, or was the dynamite suddenly there once they DID need it? And if they’d needed something else could it be possible Danielle would have told them that particular thing was in the ship? It’s a mind-fu k I know. But it’s still a question you have to ask yourself.

I believe that there are no coincidences. I think everything you see is being placed into being by requirement, a la the island. I think the Others know this, which would explain why they’ve been so ‘mysterious’ with the 815 survivors. They don’t tell them the truth because doing so would give them near limitless power. They can’t tell them. It would interfere with whatever agenda the Others are currently trying to achieve.

Finally, I believe Walt had these powers all along - even before the island. His abilities are very akin to the island’s natural powers, and that’s why the Others wanted him.

Japanese Wisdom!

07.23.06

I must admit that everybody is congested and clueless as a reaction of what’s being happening to our brothers in Palestine & Lebanon. A majority even has changed his/her life theme, for example; we spend most of the time jumping from one news channel to another and on WWW side from a Newspaper Site or blog to another.

I must admit also that I have broken this rhythm and was persuaded by my friend to watch a movie in the cinema, so that we override temporarily that sad atmosphere; arab children, women & men are being killed in hundreds!!

The movie was FAST and FURIOUS 3, TOKYO DRIFT.

I am not going to start narrating about the story, but I will mention a very impressive wisdom which was the best thing in that movie. The proverb which is Japanese, was being told out by the father of the hero, who is a racing addicted guy, of not to interchange badly in the japanese society specially that the guy was trying to challenge by racing some Japanese Mafia guys.

The Proverb is:

The Nail that sticks out gets hammered

The Hammer will hit only the nail which sticks out, normal nails which are already inline will not be hammered.

Creation of the Oscar Statuette
From its creation in 1927, one of the first goals of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) was the development of a way to honor achievements in the motion picture industry. The Academy Awards, now in its 78th year, were the result of this work.
Vital to the success of the Awards was the creation of trophy that could be distributed at the Awards. MGM art director Cedric Gibbons was assigned the task of designing the statuette. The product of Gibbons’ work was the statuette that we all recognize today: a simple, stylized golden knight standing on a reel of film and gripping a sword. The award was actually created by sculptor George Stanley.

How did the Oscar Get Its Name?
Although officially named the Academy Award of Merit, the statuette is almost universally known as the Oscar. But where did this name come from? A number of stories have arisen over the years.
The most popular story about the name’s origin involves then Academy librarian and future executive director, Margaret Herrick. The story goes that Herrick, upon seeing the statuette sitting on a table exclaimed “it looks just like my Uncle Oscar!” The name stuck and it has been called by that name ever since.
Another common story involves actress and two-time Academy Award winner Bette Davis, who reportedly named it after her ex-husband, Harmon Oscar Nelson, Jr. Columnist Sidney Skolsky, perhaps the first to use the name in print, claimed that the name came from an old music hall joke, “Will you have a cigar, Oscar?”
Although we don’t know the name’s true origin, we do know that it quickly gained popularity. In 1934 Hollywood reporter Sidney Skolsky used the name in reference to Katherine Hepburn’s win that year. Walt Disney is also reported to have called it by that name in the same year at the Awards ceremony. By 1939 the Academy itself was using the name officially.

Evolution of the Oscar Statuette
In its 78 years, the Oscar has undergone relatively few changes. Looking at a statue from 1929 and one today, they are almost exactly the same. It is 13 ½ inches tall and weighs 8 ½ pounds.
